Riding with Grandpa

I wanted to capture not only the beautiful sunlight, but the feeling of a warm memory, sparkling with happiness. So this little child, riding with Grandpa, listening to his stories as they go, represents maybe all those small happy moments that we have, tucked away in our memories somewhere.  Dust one off today, bring it out and let it make your smile again - and maybe share it with someone you love!   This one is 5x7. Our Life as Dogs

by Deb Pero on 3/27/2009 12:17:22 AM

Maybe it's lack of sleep, but my first thought when I saw these two dogs was "hey, that looks like us!" Steve, tall and thin, and me, short and uh... sturdy. So here we are, as golden retrievers.  I think if we really were dogs, I'd want to be a golden.  What about you?  What kind of dog would you be?  This one is 6x6, oil on linen.  SOLD, thanks!

Comfort Zone

by Deb Pero on 3/25/2009 9:57:59 PM

I titled this one "comfort zone" because, after several days of painting rather complicated little scenes, I decided to switch to a still life, which usually is easier for me. This little stoneware pitcher is a favorite, one of the first "New England pottery" pieces that I bought when we moved here from Texas nearly 30 years ago. Pretty amazing that it's survived 3 kids and countless meals!  And "comfort zone" also has another connotation. I love a cup of tea, sometime with milk, and sometimes with lemon, while I paint in the studio. So this little painting sort of puts me in my happy place.  I hope you like it too!  It's 5x7, oil on canvas.  Just click herese!   or here   to see all the paintings so far!

Cool Down

I thnk I'd like to paint a full size version of this one some day. I love the feel of morning light as it glitters on all the surfaces.  As I paint, I sometimes make up stories  and for this one, I imagined that this gal is living her dream of owning a horse and entering a few riding competitions. She gets to the stables at the crack of dawn for some practice, and she's done now, taking her beloved partner for his cool down.  She watches some other riders beyond the fence working on their own skills as she walks him out.   This one is 5x5, oil on panel.  This little 4x6 was painted by request of friends, Don and Jean. They wanted this scene of them, paddling around on Dublin Lake with Mt. Monadnock in the distance.  I was happy to oblige.  SOLD

Winter Morning

by Deb Pero on 3/19/2009 9:29:43 PM

I saw this beautiful pinkish gold early sunlight hitting the side of a neighbor's house and had to try to capture it. So, I threw on a coat and grabbed the camera and tromped down the driveway to get the photo. Of course, I was still in my fuzzy house shoes and pajamas, which are pink flannel with little coffee cups all over them. Maybe none of the neighbor's noticed, but artists are supposed to be eccentric anyway, right?
Now winter is fading and snow is melting and none of us wants to see snow any more, so this will probably be the last winter painting... It is 5x7. SOLD

Reading in the Park

I just love this little couple, sitting on a park bench in the sunshine, comfortable and just taking a quiet moment to enjoy their reading.  And I especially love the lady's little sling back shoes!  There is something very beautiful about an older couple, just being together. This one is 5x5. SOLD

That Red is Everywhere!

That wasn't going to be the title, but once I started painting,  I realized how the rich red of the background was finding its way onto almost every surface.  I don't usually use red for background, but felt like some richer color today.  The bowl, a favorite of mine, was handthrown by local potter James Mitchmeyer. I love the oriental-inspired design, ending in that little red dot.   I hope you like it.  This one is 6x6.  To purchase, pleaseclick here.

And a Pint of Guinness

Happy St. Patty's Day!  In honor of the day, here's hubby Steve's favorite beer, which is always on tap at our local haunt, Harlow's Pub in Peterborough, NH. It's a great place to gather with friends!  Maybe we'll celebrate with some corned beef and cabbage - another favorite!
This one is 5x7. SOLD
