Comfort Zone

I titled this one "comfort zone" because, after several days of painting rather complicated little scenes, I decided to switch to a still life, which usually is easier for me. This little stoneware pitcher is a favorite, one of the first "New England pottery" pieces that I bought when we moved here from Texas nearly 30 years ago. Pretty amazing that it's survived 3 kids and countless meals!  And "comfort zone" also has another connotation. I love a cup of tea, sometime with milk, and sometimes with lemon, while I paint in the studio. So this little painting sort of puts me in my happy place.  I hope you like it too!  It's 5x7, oil on canvas.  Just click herese!   or here   to see all the paintings so far!

That Red is Everywhere!

That wasn't going to be the title, but once I started painting,  I realized how the rich red of the background was finding its way onto almost every surface.  I don't usually use red for background, but felt like some richer color today.  The bowl, a favorite of mine, was handthrown by local potter James Mitchmeyer. I love the oriental-inspired design, ending in that little red dot.   I hope you like it.  This one is 6x6.  To purchase, pleaseclick here.

Little Creamer and Sunflowers

This little creamer was a "find" at our local dump.  Here in New Hampshire, Saturday is "dump day", and everybody takes their trash and recycling.  It's quite the social event. Local politicians usually make a round by the dump to shake hands.  We also have a "swap shop" at our dump - where everything from used clothing, books, toys, to housewares and old bicycles are dropped off - the ultimate in recycling!  I found this creamer there, and it is rather old , judging from its crackled glaze.. Not beautiful, but it has a certain charm, don't you think?  SOLD

Silver Creamer, Spoon, and a Grape

Please somebody stop me if I try to paint this creamer again! It's a little like torture, with all the raised and etched designs and reflective surfaces!  I found it at an antique shop.   This is the second ( and maybe last!) time it'll show up in a still life!  I starte with just the creamer and spoon, and added the grape for a touch of color.  I like the way that color bounces off the silver surfaces.
